spring!

spring is here.  at least for now.  we're going to have weather in the 70s this week!  although i'm sure we'll get slammed with another snowstorm before the month is over.  unlike folks in 'the south' i've learned not to celebrate spring until may in colorado.  we usually get some nice days thrown in march and april but it usually doesn't stop snowing until june.  so because we know this weather isn't going to stick around we've been spending as much time outside as we can.

Actually using the bob for once.
we've been using the bob again.  she sleeeeps the whole time.

henry's back to rock climbing.

giving avery a big fat kiss.  she's not a fan.  yet.

Nice weather!
vitamin d makes us all happy.  even when we don't get much sleep.

sunday funday

we went to colorado springs on sunday.
i have to be honest, it's not my favorite town.
but charlie's mom and aunt were in town and they wanted to do a bit of sightseeing.
so we went to the olympic training center, pikes peak (again), and garden of the gods.
it was a long day. 13 hours in fact.

olympic training center
i'm the missing 5th person.

pikes peak again
pikes peak summit.
we took the cog train up this time.
definitely not worth the $33.

tuesday night we got tons of snow.
i was a happy, happy girl. all of that snow = 3 day week for me!
(although, i think we could have had school today.)

tuesday night i went grocery shopping. when i walked into the store it was raining. i came out and we had an inch of snow on the ground.
2 hours later charlie asked me to move my car out of the garage. it got stuck.
luckily, i was able to get it back in and we spent the next 15 minutes trying to help our neighbor pull her car into the garage.

we spent tuesday night drinking beer and making quesadillas.
and watching it snow.
watching it fall
staring out the window is henry's hobby.

i slept in until 9 on wednesday.
but charlie was up at 5 (and then back to sleep on the couch) for a trip to western colorado that got delayed.
he did manage to take some pictures of the snow before it all started to melt.

snow day!
our street.

the sun attempting to come out.

after lots of coffee & a play date for the dogs. i took dunkin for a walk.
a lot of the snow had melted but there was still enough around to make it pretty.

and then i dropped our skis off at christy sports, went shopping, made brownies, did a TON of laundry, and graded some papers.

i think i'm done with winter now.

hello march!

i've never been so happy to see march. ever.
yesterday was feb. 28th which means exactly 3 more months of working where i am.
i've never been so excited for an ending before.
i've been counting down the weeks, days, hours (ok, maybe not hours) until may 28th.
not only is it my last day at work but it's our anniversary weekend!
and we're heading to steamboat to celebrate.
did you hear that charlie!?!?! we're going to steamboat! alone! for an entire weekend!
i'm hoping that march brings lots of warm weather.
our forecast has 50 degrees and rain in it. i'm hoping that the rain melts the rest of the snow on the ground.

here's everything i want to do in march:

... go snowshoeing.
... walk the dogs more. because the weather will be so nice.
... wear t-shirts. it's spring, right?
... stain some furniture.
... not fail my hyrdo midterm.
... finish the research + write the abstract for my term paper.
... buy a new humidifier. apparently if you leave yours running without water in it you'll burn out the motor.
... drink more sunshine beer.

i'm excited for the promise of flowers + warm weather + hiking.

Springtime shopping...

Ahhh, Anthropologie, how I love you so. If I had all the money in the world (or maybe just a little more than I actually do) then I'd be shopping at you a lot more.

I am on the hunt for a quilt for our bed. We have a duvet that we use in the winter but it's too hot in the summer especially because I refuse to turn on the a.c. Yes, you heard right, I'd rather sweat all day and night long than turn on the air conditioning. Poor C ... at least he knows what he's getting himself into. Anyway ... we have a lot of blues in our room so I've been looking for something with blue in it but nothing that says "this is your mother's Laura Ashley bedspread" (read: I hate florals).

So I've been looking at C&B, PB, BB&B, Target, and everywhere else ... which led me to check out Anthropologie where I found a whole bunch of things that I want:

Check out these cool measuring bowls. I think I'd be spending a lot more time in the kitchen if I had these babies to measure with. Eh, probably not but I still think they're cool.
Photobucket
How cool is this bowl? Way too cool to actually put anything in.
Photobucket
I found this quilt which I love. It's even reversible so if you get tired of one set of colors you can switch to another. It's a little too funky for C though. It might take some serious convincing (and a price reduction).
Photobucket
And these coasters would be perfect for spring. I can just picture myself using one to rest my margarita/corona/mojito on. :)
Photobucket
In case you didn't notice everything I picked out is a springy color. I am definitely ready to say goodbye to winter, snow, ice, and wind. I'm ready to plant some flowers, get a hammock, and spend a lot of time soaking up some sun.

Spring cleaning

Being March and all I decided that I should get rid of some things that we didn't need in our apartment. After getting rid of a ridiculous amount of stuff when we moved in August I've tried not to accumulate too much. I hate clutter and I hate useless things. If we're not using it now or won't be in a month or two then I tend to get rid of it. (Note: This does not apply to the bed that is currently sitting in our garage.) Our apartment doesn't have a linen closet which is a fact that makes me very sad since we have a lot of linens for the bed in the garage and have to find a place to store them.

Our guest bedroom/office closet pretty much looked like Monica on Friends's closet (the one that was so messy and full of random stuff). I couldn't really even open it. It was sad. So that was what I tackled first. Sadly I don't have a before picture but here are a few afters. If you're thinking that this looks messy, well then you should have seen it before. Trust me this is a massive improvement.
Photobucket
think we have enough bags and backpacks?
Photobucket
hanging everything up gave me enough space to stuff the "Rock Band" drums in the closet. I can't even begin to describe how happy this made me.
Photobucket
What's this?! That's right, folks, there is now space in our second closet to actually hang stuff. Which means when people come to visit they can actually hang up their clothes. Exciting stuff.

Next was our closet. It wasn't really messy but I just wanted to get rid of all of the clothes that we never wear. End result of the closet is this.
Photobucket
and...
Photobucket
Usually there's about twice as many clothes here. I think C took half of his clothes to Hawaii.
last, but not least.
Photobucket
If you're actually looking at the clothes in the closet you'll notice that C has about twice the amount of clothes that I do. Sad, sad fact.

End result of everything is all of this stuff that the Salvation Army will be getting when I drop it off on Wednesday.
Photobucket
yes, that's a futon mattress. but really, what can you do with an extra futon mattress? and three bags of clothes which are going ....

And since it's officially March, I decided we needed some flowers. Nothing says spring like daffodils. (And they were all of $2.)
