it's the little things ...

dunkin
this is his 'i want to play ball' face.

...  warm apple bread.
...  enjoying our last few dinners outside before the cold weather comes.
...  watching a movie on a friday night.
...  crockpot dinners.
...  fresh flowers.
...  pancakes and coffee on a saturday morning.
...  football on sunday afternoons.
...  walking the dogs when it's cold and rainy and no one else is outside.
...  booking a weekend in steamboat springs.
...  cooking with fresh herbs.
...  charlie and i both going to petco on the same day and buying the same exact things for the dogs.
...  chips and salsa.
...  when i think we're out of dog food but find a 1/2 full bag.
...  a productive saturday morning.
...  a relaxing sunday morning.

the best blanket in the world.

lazy cat

charlie got me this blanket for my birthday a few weeks ago and it is the coziest thing ever.
ollie can't leave it alone.

mr. moose

in an effort to have less stuff in the house i've been trying to get rid of things.
i had this blank canvas that i got at big lots for $2 over 2 years ago and i figured i should either do something with it or throw it out.
since i absolutely cannot paint i wasn't sure what to do with it.
then a few weeks ago i saw this on pinterest and decided i could make something similar for free.
i made a moose since apparently we have them in colorado even though i'm probably one of the few people who's never seen one.  also, i like their antlers.

after some paint and scrapbook paper:
mr. moose

now i just have to figure out where to put it.  i probably should have thought of that first.
my initial thought was to replace some of these picture frames with it.

progress

but i tried that and it looked really out of place.  so for now he can hang out on top of the bookshelf.

bad cat.

this weekend i started washing all of the clothes, blankets, and everything else that we have so far for the baby.
not 30 seconds after i put the mattress pad and sheet on the bed this happened:

i knew putting a sheet on the crib was a mistake

the cat cannot resist clean sheets.

it's a work in progress

we've slowly been accumulating things and figuring out where to put everything.
but here's what it looks like right now:
nursery
eventually a rocking chair/glider will end up in front of those windows.  and the middle two won't be tied together because i swear the point of hanging curtains was to actually use them.
i got those baskets for the bookshelf that hold receiving blankets and clothes that are currently too big, but that probably won't be for too long.  and once i figure out a way to hang that mobile up it won't be hanging on the bookshelf.

curtains
same thing really, just another angle.

here's the one usable wall:
nursery
those pictures aren't finished yet, i'm still moving them around and we still need a changing pad for the dresser.  eventually there will also be something above the crib.  once i decide what that is.

you've already seen the awkward corner. and the closet/office is still a work in progress.  it's currently where i dump all my papers before i file them about once every 3 months.

table vs. chair

pretty much everything in the baby's room (except for the crib) has been furniture from other places and rooms in the house.  i've mentioned before that the room has sort of an awkward shape.  there are 3 doors:  a closet door, a bathroom door, and a door to the hall.  and each of the doors is on a separate wall.  oh, and there's also a wall of windows.
anyway, there's a weird corner of the room that i'm planning on either putting and end table or a chair because they both need a home.

here's the end table:
end table?

and here's the chair:
chair?

i like the end table because it's bright, means extra lighting, and more storage but i think it would be nice to have an extra chair in the room.

hats

one of the things i wanted for the baby was a knitted hat.
obviously having a baby in december means lots of cold and snow and handmade hats are about 100% cuter than anything i could buy in a store.
what i don't remember is that my dad had promised that he would make a hat for the baby.
so when i came home for our baby shower last month i found out that both of my parents had crocheted hats for the baby.
they were most definitely my favorite gifts that we received.

my mom made a blue one
hat made by mom

and my dad made this one.
hat made by dad

yes that is christopher the bear modeling the hats.  i tried to get henry to help out but he wouldn't sit still long enough and his head was too big.

hi mom.  thanks for the hat and dad's too.

3 day weekends.

are amazing.
we certainly didn't get a lot done but we did do a lot of relaxing, something i'm getting quite good at.
charlie raced in his last tri of the year (this makes it sound like he does dozens, when really he did 2 this year).  this makes both of us happy because i get my husband back on the weekends and he doesn't have to bike flagstaff mountain for at least a few months.
i may have fallen asleep during the biking portion of his tri, but in my defense it was really nice outside, the grass was so soft, and he was gone for over an hour.
boulder sunset tri
this was right before my nap.

on sunday i actually cleaned my car for the first time this year probably, i attempted to organize more things in the baby's room because having things without a place drives me insane, and we went out to dinner at the chophouse in denver.  i wouldn't recommend it, although it was nice to go somewhere different since we usually stick to the same 4 restaurants we always eat at.

the animals spent a lot of time doing this,
buddies
although don't let them fool you, they still went on some nice walks and dunkin played lots of ball.
lately ollie's been grooming dunkin a lot, which i think is pretty funny.  dunkin loves it and will make himself at still as possible, and then when it's all over he'll chase the cat across the room.
