things I learned this weekend ...

... check the forecast before waking up at 5 am, driving an hour and a half, and braving rain and sleet for 5 miles before you realize you'd be an idiot to go any further.
... "road not maintained for low clearance vehicles" really means "badass Jeeps and trucks only".
... when you lose all feeling in your hands and your fingers turn white, it doesn't necessarily mean you have frostbite.
... always have a credit card with you.
... always have a cell phone with you.
... geico sucks. seriously.
... always take extra food, water, and t.p..
... never attempt to stop a 75 lb. german shepherd from leaping out of a vehicle by putting your arm in front of him.
... be nice to your friends. you might need them to brave i-70 traffic to come get you in the middle of nowhere.
... policemen are not all that concerned about your safety.
... oh, and always wear sunscreen.

Yesterday was a very, very long day. But worth it in the end.
