recent happenings ...

i don't have anything crazy or exciting going on at the moment.  mostly, things have been very routine and normal and i'm really enjoying it right now.  routines are nice and normal is good.  we have a vacation planned in about a month and i'm starting to really look forward to it.  a week with charlie and avery and the beach sounds just about perfect right now.  also, it should come after a really crazy week at work so it'll be a much needed break.

... currently our house is a mess.  i feel like every room is in the process of being changed into something else which has just created messes and chaos everywhere.  we moved charlie's office to the basement.  and while we didn't actually have to move much furniture, both the basement and the former office or master retreat are unorganized.  i really need to organize all of our files, shred files we don't need, and hopefully pare down the amount of paper files that we keep.  but having that room connected to our bedroom means that avery makes a beeline for it every time we're upstairs because there's so many fun things to play with like pens and rulers and papers.  the future baby's room is also a mess.  i need to move the futon out and get a dresser so i can pull some of the newborn stuff out of boxes and put away.  i also still have a bunch of stuff in that closet that i have to find a home for.  despite all of my recent rubbermaid purchases, there's still tons of stuff that needs an official home.   i also need to reorganize all of our kitchen cabinets since we have a lot of stuff in there that we either don't use or i'm not sure where it is.  and don't get me started on the garage.

...  we took avery to the county fair this past weekend.  i don't have any pictures because i was too busy carrying my child around the entire time.  she loved the small animal barn, we went through twice and she was really into the chickens.  she also seemed to like the horses a lot but could care less about the sheep, goats, and cows.  they had a little petting zoo that charlie took her in but since she's been to one now three weekends in a row i don't think it was all that exciting to her.  charlie really wanted to get her a pony ride (they were doing them for free) so we waited in line forever and then she freaked out when i tried to put her on the horse.  she is clearly not my child.  charlie insisted that if i held her on she would eventually like it and he may have been right but i could not be that mom holding her screaming child on top of a pony and so we left.  it was actually charlie's first fair experience too and he was pretty unimpressed.  i have always liked the animal part better than the carnival part but i will say this was a much smaller fair than what i remember the fairs being like as a kid.  it probably didn't help that we went on the last day so a lot of people had already taken their animals home.

...  avery's been really into the dogs lately.  unfortunately one of the other things that she's into is throwing things at the dogs.  henry is her preferred victim as he's a lot jumpier than dunkin. on the nicer end she's been really affectionate with him too, giving him hugs and kisses and she asks for him at random times throughout the day, insisting that he give up his cozy bed and hang out with us.

...  i must do something about avery's napping situation ...when we get back from vacation.

...  library books!  avery's been really into the few books that we get from the library each week and i'm so glad that we starting going again.  i had been avoiding it because i returned some books late and thought i owed a fine but there was no mention of that when i finally returned.  she's really into curious george "monkey" and one morning in maine "sal" and asks for those books multiple times during the day.

...  i think i might cry when summer finally ends.  i do love fall but it's been so nice to go outside all the time.  our house feels twice as big as it does in the winter and it's a nice distraction for avery when she's getting bored.  and yes, you can go outside in the winter too but it's just not the same as walking out our door barefoot.  i really do need to get some better winter clothes, though, i think if i was warmer i might hate the cold slightly less.
